“Since I was in high school, I’ve been working in the music industry. But I’ve never liked any of the so-called merch companies out there.” Co-Owner Nick Roccanti commented. “I always thought their online stores were poorly made and their printing services were horrible and merch is the lifeblood for bands. You can’t have someone printing merch for you who’s missing deadlines or just messing up your order in general. So after quitting my job at a record label, my partner Jon Crawford and I decided to build a really awesome online store system — which is now Storenvy.”
Simple enough concept, see a need, fill a need. Roccanti and Crawford pushed on, partnering with designer Scott Anderson, the man responsible for their bubbly and ever so adorable website. “Since we started last year, the focus of Storenvy and the vision behind it has changed. We will always be working with bands, but we want to build something that can be used by anyone. We don’t want to be a ‘band merch company’, we want to be an online store community.” Roccanti continued. Included in the company’s vast and lofty goals was to include screen printing to their repertoire. Which they’ve done with great success, producing happy customers nationwide.
“The main idea of Storenvy is not even live yet.”Roccanti explains. ” Storenvy is going to be a social network designed around online stores. We know there are a ton of online store systems out there, and we really want to stand out. We want to allow shoppers and store owners to interact with each other. So I think our overall goal would be to build a really awesome shopping community.” In less than a year, the Storenvy community has grown from a handful of friends and bands to over 200 stores, including the likes of The Myriad, Broadway, Cool Hand Luke, The Wedding, Truth Drums, and so many more.
“Besides being community-based, our DIY online stores are just really easy to use.” he remarked on what makes them different. “Most merch companies out there don’t allow you to have any control of your stores if they are handling all of your fulfillment (which we do for stores that need it). With us you have full control. You can view all orders, edit products, upload new photos, set up discount codes, edit the look of your store and more.” Gearing up for the complete launch of their online community, Storenvy expects to explode by allowing any user to sign up for a free store, controlling their own shipping. This can allow kids to either just print up a few funny stickers and sell them or help people grow their own business at a pace they feel comfortable with.
In the coming months, Storenvy hopes to launch all of their features and will be relocating the company to Austin, TX, not only a hub in the music community but also a hot spot for web development.
